No.3(2000)16.Computer aided design of gathering-ball shape in glass blowing process

This report describes the development of the automatic design program of a gathering-ball in the glass blowing process. In this process, the skilled workers have been performing the gathering glass operetion using a gathering-ball. The design method of a gathering-ball by the skilled workers is shown as 6 empirical equations. DesignCAD 2D/3D Ver.10.1J is used for the automatic design of a gathering-ball, and the program is designed with the BasicCAD language and the macro command. The target weight of gathering glass is input to the developped program, the 6 dimensions of gathering-ball shape are caluculated using empirical equations, then the shape of ball is automatically drawn on CRT. As a result of the automatic design, it is possible to obtain the production drawing of the gathering-ball by non-skilled worker.
