An ultraviolet(UV) radiation-ion chromatography for the determination of total-cyanide in water was studied. Follwing results were obtained.
- When a sample solution adjusted at pH of above 12 was radiated with the UV, metal cyanide complexes in the solution were decomposed, and the cyanides were oxidized to cyanate, which was determined by ion chromatograph as cyanide.
- Almost all metal cyanide complexes were decomposed to form cyanate with the yielde of above 90% except silver and copper cyanide complexes.
- The silver and copper cyanide complexes in the presense of hydrogene peroxide were decomposed with the yielde of 90% by 90 min`s UV radiation.
- Each metal cyanide complex in the presence of hydrogene peroide were decomposed to form cyanate with the yielde of 80-98% by 90-120min`s UV radiation.
- The application of the procedure to several wastewater sample solutions gave good results.
